Sushi and walking around the town....

So after checking out the local tarantulas and our cool cabin we got pretty hungry, and decided to wander into town. Peruvian food is awesome, but our eating experiences have been somewhat hit and miss. Today though we got lucky, and found this really cool place right off the main highway. Out whole family LOVES sushi, so when we saw this restaurant we could not turn it down.

Puka Pukara, Sushi and Ceviche! YUM!

We were pretty hungry after a day of travelling and tarantulas, so this place hit the spot. The kids are not big eaters, but we all cleaned out our plates at this restaurant, they were even nice enough to split a meal into two nice plates for the kids. We learned that trout is a very typical dish here in the Sacred Valley, and it is delicious; if you are a fish lover I highly recommend it. We usually try to stick to "menus" (sort of the 'standard meal' for a given restaurant), which are a more economical alternative here in Peru.  Although this place was on the pricey side compared to what we usually eat (around 100 soles or 40 CDN for the whole family), it was delicious!
The restaurant was very tastefully, and simply decorated.

Fried Trucha (trout) served over rice and vegetables, and sushi

We have totally become "those people" that take pictures of their food.. Trout sushi

I started eating before we took this picture, the portion was much larger.....Sushi acevichado.

After a yummy lunch we headed into town, and found Urubamba's "Plaza de Armas" Every town in Peru so far has a main plaza, surrounded by cool little shops, and restaurants. Urubamba's was much smaller than Cusco's and it was nice not to have anyone following us offering massages, and goods every few steps, my 6'6 tall blonde husband does attract a little attention here in Peru.

Check out the contrast between the palm trees and the glacier in the background.

More beautiful flowers

I think a more appropriate name for Urubamaba would be "flat land of the beautiful flowers" I wonder how you say that in Quechua?
