Cataratas de Arin

Today we did a little hike which was recommended by a couple sister missionaries that we ran into in Urubamba's Plaza de Armas.  It was not very long (maybe an hour or so round trip), with a beautiful waterfall at the end.  The trail was not marked (and to be fair was not really a trail - it started just at the side of the road where the taxi dropped us off, and went up through a town and along various farming paths).  After a few wrong turns we eventually got to the waterfall.

On the way back we saw a cool pink chapel (if Maija could design a church, this would be it).

Terran was happy to ride in another moto taxi.

  1. Love the taxi! And the waterfall pictures! This trip looks all sunshine and rainbows? Is it true? What has been your greatest hardship? Hi Maija! We love seeing your adventures!

    1. That is a great question Nicole, the trip is wonderful, but it is not all sunshine and rainbows. Terran had a stomach bug a couple of times, and was out for a full day while we were in Urubamba. The water situation in Peru is not ideal (you can’t drink water from the tap, and sometimes there is no water). The kids at times drive us NUTS! At times we are sure we drive them crazy too! Whining + impatience is not the best combo, and perhaps one of our biggest challenges. The kids miss playing with other kids, and even just talking to other kids. But we keep telling the kids, and ourselves that this is a once in a life time experience, so we have to make the most of it, also the great weather and beauty around us really helps.

    2. Just remember kids drive ya nuts in Calgary too at times and the whining and impatience were part of Calgary life too! At least at our house it is! Have your kids face timed any friends? I bet they do miss that play time! I agree though that overall you are at the right place experiencing wonderful things! Glad you have each other! Love ya!

  2. What exactly is Terran's fascination with the mototaxi? In Lima some had only a tarp-like lining for walls and kinda folding doors (like a closet door or old phone booth doors)... usually.

  3. Has Terran given up on his dream to be an astronaut or train driver, only to pursue another dream, to become a moto taxi driver? We miss you guys!
