ABBA [Not the band :b]
Our "Vacaciones Utiles" or day camp just down the street from our apartment |
So, today was my first day in ABBA, a day camp for kids. I was the oldest one there (LOL) and also, from what I saw, the most experienced. My schedule for today was the following:
My schedule for this week |
1. Story time! This was supposed to be Theatre, but I have no idea how.
2. Vocal and Oral expression. We learned 2 strange songs, but I’ll figure them out tomorrow.
3. Snack. We ate and “frolicked” around after.
4. Cooking! Made delicious cheesecakes and I am already done mine.
5. Dance! We are learning the Marinera, a traditional Peruvian dance. I really like it. To do this dance you use handkerchiefs for props. There is a certain way to hold these.

How to hold the handkerchief while dancing La Marinera |
This video is a great example of Peruvian Marinera......A man, a woman, and a horse dancing!
This is the way to do it. Also, I have learned quite a bit. I know the “Tacotaco” “Punta Punta” and “Machete”step. I have also learned “ Tijeras” (scissors), the footwork main move. This is a very cool dance, be sure to search up “Marinera Peruvian dances” on YouTube. I love dancing this “Baile” and hope to learn it well.
What is a traditional Canadian dance? I told my teacher Square Dancing, the closest I could think of but there is surely something else. Please comment if you can think of anything.
Thanks! Love, Maija.
P.S.
The chart got Cooking and Canto y Expresión Oral 2 mixed up. Or maybe, it was just me and Terran who got private dancing and cooking lessons.
Square dancing, line dancing maybe. If you go out to PEI, a quadrille perhaps
ReplyDeleteMy mom will be so proud of you for learning the marinera at a young age! :) I can't wait to hear more about this week!
ReplyDeleteAs for Canadian dances: Alberta has line dancing. There's also a lot of jigging and native dances!
Maija, I am so proud of you! I could never get my kids interested in any peruvian dances.
