Easter in Quito

Yesterday we arrived in Quito, our last major stop before returning home. As we mentioned before, we had no idea that we were travelling during the busy Easter long weekend, but I have read that Easter is really cool here in Quito, so in the end it all worked out.

A view of the Panecillo from the Historic Center in Quito

Spending time here in Quito allowed us to see some of the great big Cathedrals of the city in the Holiest day of Christendom. This morning we decided to attend Easter Mass, and complete our Easter Ecuadorian Experience.

Our Uber left us a little far from the Church of La CompaƱia de Jesus where we planned to listen to mass, I guess most of the historic center in this area was pedestrian only today. We went into a few different churches before finding the one we were hoping to visit.  We did not take pictures, as photographs are not allowed inside the churches during mass. But all the gold leaf in the church was pretty impressive. I read that if you could weight all the gold leaf in that church alone it would add up to one ton of gold, a rough estimate in today's prices would add up to $36 million dollars in gold! Crazy, Eh?

One last picture, this one from last night's trip to Supermaxi, and not at all related to Easter...it just made us laugh.

These peaches are better than you, and they know it!
