I think Ecuador is a very nice place. I am in Loja right now. Loja is in the SE corner of Ecuador, deep in the mountainous highlands. Loja is known as the capital of music in Ecuador. Loja is not very hot, and that is nice after a month of 30 degrees Celsius every single day. Here it rains a bit. The weather forecast is not usually accurate. It claims to be raining every day yet it is not.
Loja is very different from every other place we have been to. Why? These are my reasons:
1. It is a fairly small city. About the size of Lethbridge. About 100,000 people. It has a few Mercados
(Markets) and 1 SuperMaxi (Superstore or Safeway of Ecuador). It has corner stores, but the only major
grocery store is SuperMaxi.
2. It has very good sidewalks for walking. The only thing that is not so good about our location is that we live
on a hill. Not a very steep hill if you go on the right sidewalk, but we usually stay on the top of the hill so
we don’t need to go up the hill very much.
3. The church is fairly large. It has 2 levels. It also has a large Family History Center. I can’t wait to go there.
I love Family History! It is like a giant puzzle that never ends. Anyway, I am getting off topic.
4. It is very green here in Loja. There are lots of palm trees here as you can see in the first picture at the top.
My first impression of Ecuador was me thinking “Oh wow. This is very rainy”.
5. It is Ecuador! This is a very different experience for everyone. We all only really know Canada. Well now
Peru too. We are learning to experience different countries. We also adjust faster now. After moving so much
we adjust very easy now.
6. Our first full day in Loja we went out for lunch with our AirBNB host. When we got our meal,
instead of a piece of garlic bread or chips, they gave us a big plate of BANANAS! Our AirBNB host told us
that Ecuador is the #1 producer of bananas in the world. They even eat bananas with their soup.

7. Last night, there was a 7.5 earthquake. I slept RIGHT through it (again). How? Don't ask me. I have
no idea. Mommy and Daddy said their bed felt like it was rocking. They looked out the window and what
did they see? All of the buildings rocking back and forth. They didn't wake us up, because they didn't want
us to be scared (What, me?). I do sometimes make a mountain out of an earthquake (Who said
I love ALL your pictures but the one with the flag really made my heart jump!
